About: When Southwest Fair Housing Council (SWFHC) contacted me, their website was caught in a time warp. Operating on a seven-year-old template, it had become a cobweb of broken links, missing images, and erratic layouts. This visual mess was especially contentious since one of their primary online audiences was individuals with disabilities.

The principal challenge was sorting through convoluted layers of web pages. However, after a deep dive, I was eventually able to start consolidating and deleting outdated, redundant content, and I arrived at a clear organizational scheme to start my from-the-ground-up web rebuild. Further marketing/communication projects included a logo refresh, along with the creation of SWFHC's first brand guideline book.

Page Redesigns

SWFHC previously relied on an instructor’s personal Google calendar for managing monthly educational courses, lacking a seamless signup process. But with my recent website rebuild, this challenge was efficiently addressed by integrating an Eventbrite widget, streamlining the registration process and enhancing user experience.

Before / After

Logo Refresh

The initial SWFHC logo (Before) stirred discord due to its politically sensitive backdrop. The disability community found the font difficult, while the human illustrations faced criticism for lacking inclusivity/diversity. My remedy was straightforward: I omitted the figures, shifted focus to the housing graphic, and introduced an equality symbol, highlighting the Equal Housing Opportunity (HUD) ethos.

Solid Navigation Menu

The previous navigation menu faced several challenges, such as hidden sub-pages and inconsistent layouts across the site. Note on the Before image drawn green line to the right, next to the Search icon to see layout shifts and the sidebar nav reveals the link inconsistency across pages.  In the redesign, these issues were eradicated with a singular and consistent top level navbar that also included social links, and a multi-language drop-down menu; significantly enhancing user navigation and accessibility.

Their First Brand Guideline Book

A paramount request from the Director of SWFHC was the crafting of a Brand Guideline book. The core objectives were to foster enhanced Equity within the Disability community alongside achieving a stronger visual harmony across their collateral.

Source Of Income Protection Radio Spots

A new local city ordinance prevents housing providers from discriminating against sources of income (SOI). SOI is an important new anti-discrimination law for many low-income individuals who have struggled to allocate housing. In partnership with https://dsmfilm.com/ for production and Nour Milla as Bi-lingual voice talent; we produced eight different radio spots. Here are two samples.
