About:
Direct, a Center for Independent Living (CIL), supports individuals with disabilities. Their outdated WordPress site was a jumble of problematic pages, leading to a complete rebuild. Key to the redesign was ensuring accessibility, following Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508 standards. Since the site's completion in early 2022, I’ve managed it as webmaster and provided social media and graphic design services. I also expanded my services to a local nonprofit coalition, AZDAC, creating an accessible website and training their team in site management.
Testimonial:
"Joe is fun to work with. He has great ideas and has helped us increase traffic on our website. Our non-profit doesn't have a designated marketing person and Joe has offered to help where ever he can to get promotional projects moving. He is definitely committed to seeing make progress and succeed."

The original WordPress site, which was little more than a stripped-down text page; this was done in hopes of making it as accessible as possible. However, the site refresh successfully kept the content accessible, and to ensure compliance, we integrated the www.equalweb.com widget, allowing us to maintain their accessibility standards while offering a more visual and dynamic UX/UI. Before / After
Before collaborating with Direct, their social media efforts lacked custom visuals and the strategic use of hashtags. To enhance their online presence, I launched a LinkedIn business page to expand their partner network and guided the team in becoming more consistent with blog creation and social media posting. By implementing best practices for accessibility, we achieved substantial growth in organic reach and user engagement across platforms, as reflected in the metrics displayed below.
